UFC 182 Methodology Breakdown

Main-Event and Co-Main Event

Jones Vs. Cormier

[Jones]

Though a charlatan outside of the octagon, Jon Jones will be effective if he relies on his same methodology; that is use his longer reach and distance to score points with tap-shots. Nothing more, nothing more of surprise will arise. He may pull guard but only in the last 10 seconds of a round ( and claim he did it in a true endeavor to submit) and only if Cormier doesn't keep him on his back. Jones's reach has been the true key to his success; taken away, we saw Gufstfsson take him apart at UFC 165, in which Jones yet walked away with a chance victory.

[Cormier]

His string of victories over Frank Mir at UFC on FOX, Henderson vs Melendez, Roy Nelson at UFC 166, Patrick Cummins at UFC 170, and a one-sided domination of Dan Henderson at UFC 173. 15-0 in his pro career, supported by two appearances in the Olympics for freestyle wrestling, the momentum that will be carried into the octagon at UFC 182 will be gargantuan. Jone's reach will be the only obstacle to Cormier; body attacks and heavy grappling is bound to break Jones.

[Prediction]

Both Jones and Cormier have the potential to walk away with the Light Heavyweight title at UFC 182, but of all his past opponents, Jones has been given mostly strikers with no great grappling pedigree. This will be the first time he will have to endure the onslaught grappling of one of the best wrestlers in MMA today, only surpassed by Olympic Silver Medalist Yoel Romero.

[Cerrone Vs Jury]

[Cerrone]

Currently on a five-fight win streak, the "Cowboy" will be looking for a 6th consecutive victory against the undefeated Myles Jury. Cerrone's methodology is simple; land heavy kicks, cripple the legs of Jury, and make his hands effective. Jury's footwork is a vital instrument he has, if Cerrone can stymie his pedals, he can land his hands and possible set up a head kick or floor Jury and sink in a timely rear-naked choke.

[Jury]

15-0, currently on a 6 fight win streak in the UFC, with wins over notable fighters as Michael Johnson at UFC 155 and Diego Sanchez at UFC 171, Myles Jury has risen to be an exciting fighter in a very deep and talented Lightweight division. Defeated in the Ultimate fighter house in an unofficial match, Jury, despite
Cerrone's tirades, is officially undefeated and will remain so if Cerrone is unable to land his lethal leg kicks. Jury's boxing is much better than Cerrone's and if he can take away the distance, give Cerrone no space, he can use the method in which Diaz, Dos Anjos, Barboza and momentarily, Alvarez used. Effective boxing meshed with excellent level changes and unvarying pressure wins this fight for Jury.
